Disadvantages of Japanese-Imported Mercedes and the Cons of Buying One
Mercedes cars imported from Japan are often praised for their excellent condition, which is similar to that of new cars. Most of these cars are accident-free and in outstanding shape. However, there are several drawbacks that may make some potential buyers hesitant when considering Japanese-imported Mercedes cars. Below are the most notable disadvantages:
High Price
Used Mercedes cars are typically sold at slightly higher prices at private auctions in Japan. When you factor in the cost of sea freight, the price of the vehicle increases significantly, especially considering that shipping fees from Japan are relatively high. Additionally, the dealer often adds a substantial profit margin, which drives the overall price up, making it considerably more expensive than similar cars in the local market or those imported from America or Korea.
Limited Interior and Exterior Colors
A large majority of Japanese-imported Mercedes cars come with black interiors, which many buyers find undesirable as it doesn’t reflect the luxurious nature of Mercedes cars. In terms of exterior colors, these cars are generally limited to just three: white, black, and silver. It is rare for Japanese-imported Mercedes cars to come in other colors.
Language and Locale Settings
Japanese cars are typically programmed with local settings specific to Japan, such as radio frequencies, TV channels, and the language of the car’s settings and navigation system. While it is possible to change the language and locale, the process is complex and requires advanced tools and software. In contrast, changing the language and locale settings in Mercedes cars with American specifications is much easier and more straightforward.
